If you get an urgent work and you need to travel from one state to another, you need an e-pass for this. To issue this E-pass, the government has launched a website.

To get an E-pass to follow these steps:-

1. First of all you have to go to the website https://serviceonline.gov.in/epass/. This you have to click on Select State To Apply e-pass. Then you have to select the state, you want to travel to.

2. After selecting the state, you will go to an official page of that particular state. 


3. After this you have to select 'Apply Epass', there you have to fill up your contact number and the captcha. Thereafter you'll receive an OTP on you entered mobile number. Submit the OTP.

4. Thereafter you have to upload your documents along with an application. 

5. After been submitted your documents, the government will decide whether you are eligible for Epass or not.

6. If your application gets accepted, you'll receive an SMS on your mobile number, and pass will be provided to you.

After getting the Epass, you can travel to the respective state. During the journey, you have to keep a hard copy or a soft copy with you. If you get asked by the Security Personnel, you have to show that card.


Necessary Documents To Apply For E-Pass

While applying for an e-pass, you need to submit some documents. The list of the documents has been provided below:-

  1. Your Name
  2. Mobile Number
  3. Email Address
  4. Vehicle Number
  5. Passport size photographs
  6. Government Identification Card
  7. District
  8. Police Station

Note- Image size should not exceed 1 MB.

For Whom E-pass is Necessary

One thing should be kept in mind that you can apply for an e-pass only for the reasons listed below.

Medical, Police or any other force, District administration, Kitchen Gas, Garbage transport, Eatables, Disaster and Relief, Media, Fire, Ambulance, IT, Posts, Banks and ATM vehicles. 

Private security guards, agriculture, animal fodder vehicles, fire brigade, in case of death, the pass facility will be provided only.

We can also apply for e-pass our personal important works, for this you need to submit your photograph and your Government ID photograph.

1. How much time does it take for an e-pass to be issued?

E-pass gets issued within 24 hours or after 1 day of applying. After being issued, you receive an email on your registered email address.

2. What is the Validity Of Online e-pass?

If you fill any date while applying for it, then it remains valid up to that particular date. There is an option named 'Till Lockdown', if you opt that it will be valid till the lockdown.

3. What is the Full name of E-pass?

The complete name of E-pass is Exemption Pass.

4. For how many Persons, a single e-pass is valid?

A single e-pass is valid for as many as people you want but you have to submit all of their details while applying online.


  • According to the website of the National Informatics Center (NIC), almost 33.4 lakh people have applied for the Epass till now, where the government has issued Epass to almost 11 lakh of them. 9 lakh applications are still underprocessed, whereas 11 lakh applications have been rejected.
